JOHAN DE VILLIERS
Managing Director for ABB in Singapore and South-East Asia
Since 2015, Johan de Villiers is Managing Director for ABB in Singapore and South-East Asia. In the region, ABB employs around 5,000 staff and has permanent offices in all 10 ASEAN countries. The region is seen as one of the fastest growing for the ABB Group, with the tremendous economic growth opportunities in industry, energy, transportation and infrastructure. Johan frequently engages with national, and international, government and business leaders at the highest levels across all ASEAN.
Johan has been a member of the Committee for the Future Economy (CFE) in Singapore, currently serves on the CFE subcommittee for manufacturing, and sits on the steering committee of Industrial Transformation Asia-Pacific. He is also a regular contributor to the regional dialogue on these themes, and features across the regional media, as well as key events such as the World Economic Forum. Across these, and a number of other public roles, he advises on how technology and digitalization should be leveraged to bring sustainable and significant transformation to business, industry, economy and society. He served on the board of the Europe ASEAN Business Association until November 2018.
Johan has Masters degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering as well as in Business Administration. He joined ABB in 1997 in South Africa, where he successfully led various teams in areas such as industrial process automation and robotics. He then moved to the Middle East where he became Country Manager for ABB in Qatar, followed by a regional manager of the Power Systems division in the Arabian Gulf Countries, based out of Abu Dhabi.
