EU-ABC organises Mission Trip to Myanmar to meet Ministries

On 7 and 8 June the EU-ASEAN Business Council organised a mission trip to Naypyitaw, the capital of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, to meet several government Ministries to discuss the deepening of trade and investment relations with Europe and matters connected with ASEAN integration.   Meetings were held with:

  • H.E. Kyaw Tint Swe, Union Minister in the Ministry of the Office of the State Counsellor

  • H.E. Khin Maung Cho, Union Minister in the Ministry of Industry

  • H.E. Dr Aung Thu, Union Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation

  • H.E. Dr Than Myint, Union Minister in the Ministry of Commerce

  • Tun Tun Naing, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Planning and Finance

  • Win Khant, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Communications

Other key people with whom discussions took place as part of the Mission trip included Aung Naing Oo, Director General & Secretary of the Myanmar Investment Commission, Myo Zae Aung MP, a member of the International Relations Committee of the Myanmar Parliament, Zaw Min Win, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry (UMFCCI), and Daw Soe Soe Lwin, Director of the International Relations Department of Myanmar Customs.

 

The EU-ABC Delegation raised issues connected with Market Access across several sectors, moves to tackle illicit trade in Myanmar, investment policies and the privatisation of state owned enterprises, moves to improve road safety and the transport infrastructure, approval policies for agri-chemicals, and measures to increase trade and investment between the EU and Myanmar. 

 

The delegation, which was led by our Executive Director Chris Humphrey, included representatives from Allianz, Asia Group Advisors, Bosch, EuroCham Myanmar, Pernod Ricard, Prudential and SAP.

 

The Mission trip was timed to coincide with the Myanmar-EU Economic Forum, organised by EuroCham Myanmar, which took place on 6th June. And which was attended by over 400 people.
