EU-ABC holds ‘Invest in Myanmar’ Seminar in Collaboration with EuroCham Myanmar and Luther Law Firm

Earlier this morning, the EU-ASEAN Business Council hosted a Business Breakfast Briefing on “Investing in Myanmar and the New Wholesale & Retail Regulations” at the SBF Centre. Speakers from EuroCham Myanmar, Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) and Luther shared on the opportunities and challenges on investing in Myanmar.

Opening remarks were given by Filip Lauwerysen, Executive Director of EuroCham Myanmar and Chris Humphrey, Executive Director of EU-ASEAN Business Council.

The morning session consisted of three parts – the “Myanmar Business Outlook” by Marc de la Fouchardière, Deputy Director of EuroCham Myanmar, “Invest Myanmar Summit” presentation by Peter Moe Kyaw of UMFCCI, lastly a presentation on the New Wholesale and Retail Regulations in Myanmar by Alexander Bohusch, an Accredited Tax Practitioner and Attorney-at-Law at Luther Law Firm.

The talk ended with a Q&A session whereby representatives of prospective companies could raise their concerns on the upcoming economic and political challenges faced by companies newly set up in Myanmar.

When asked about the local perception on the challenges that could be faced in the unstable political environment, Alexander Bohusch highlighted that despite the absence of a quick political solution, companies who are willing and determined to invest in Myanmar could benefit largely from the first mover advantage.

This Business Breakfast Briefing was organised in collaboration with EuroCham Myanmar and sponsored by Luther Law Firm, and supported by BritCham Singapore and Britcham Myanmar. For more event and sponsorship opportunities, please write to brenda.lee@eu-asean.eu
